Ueda (上田市 Ueda-shi?) is a city in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

The city was formed on March 6, 2006, when the city of Ueda, the towns of Maruko, Sanada and the village of Takeshi (all from Chiisagata District) merged to form the city of Ueda. The new city replaced the former city of Ueda for the first time in 87 years since Ueda became a city in 1919.

As of June 1, 2011, the city has a population of 158,187 and 61,091 households with a population density of 286.57 people/km².[1] The area of the city is 552.00 km², which makes it the fifth largest in Nagano Prefecture.

Anraku-ji in Bessho Onsen, Ueda has the only extant octagonal pagoda in Japan. The pagoda has been designated as National Treasure.
